I’m finally getting around to a house tour for you. I thought we’d start at the the top and work our way down. First up, the toile bedroom.
You may remember the guest room from our old house. I tried to re-use a lot from that bedroom for this one.
As you come into this room it’s a little awkward. There is a small hallway as you walk in with the closet on the right, then the room opens up ahead of you.
At the old house we used a queen sized bed in the guest room. Just before we moved I found an antique bedroom set at the Lakewood Market. It was an awesome deal, already refinished…just too good to pass up, so I didn’t. :p This is where we ended up using it.
The mirror above the dresser came out of Halie’s old room. It was silver in it’s previous life. I just hit it with a little bit of black spray paint and viola!
As for the bedding, the ivory coverlets and shams came from Tuesday Morning. The duvets at the ends of the beds are from the old single duvet that I split. I would definitely not recommend doing that – I thought I had it sealed and stitched up well…not so much, FEATHERS everywhere hahahaha! For the toile shams I just cut down the old Euro shams and restitched them. I used king size pillows for the stuffers.
I re-used the same throw pillows from the old house. For the bed skirts, I bought new inexpensive black twin sized skirts from WalMart. I then embellished them with trim from the queen sized bed skirt that I took apart from the old set. Then that old ivory bed skirt got split and stitched onto the bottom of the black bed skirts. I sewed a band of toile fabric to the bottom edge of the ivory skirt just to frill it up a little bit.
In the above picture you can see a peek of the area rug between the beds. I got it for FREE from Shaw Floors. It is the Venezia area rug in black from their HGTV collection. Last year at Haven Shaw had an offer for bloggers to submit DIY projects for a contest they were having. My project wasn’t chosen as a winner, but all participators received a complimentary area rug. I just love mine and I thing it goes perfectly in this bedroom. Thank You Shaw Floors!!!!
I was able to re-use all of the accessories from the old guest room in this one.
The “You Are My Sunshine” picture is new. My friend Barbara gave it to me for my birthday. I LOVE IT! I used to sing this to my sweet boy when he was just a little fella. Sniff, sniff….
For the window treatment in this room I re-used the peaked panel and added ivory panels to the sides to make it better fit this larger window. The long panels are just plain cotton duck panels from Target.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this first installment of the house tour. See you soon…I’ll leave the light on for ya’.
**I did receive a free area rug as disclosed in this post, but Shaw floors did not require me to mention them. I just love my rug and wanted to tell you all about how sweet they were to give it to me.
Other than that, I have received no compensation for specific products or retailers mentioned in this post.
