Dorm Style – Part 1

Recently I was looking through some old picture files and I realized I never showed you Halie’s dorm room all done up.

It turned out pretty cute and we sure did have a lot of fun putting it all together.

This is what the room started out like:

Pretty dreary, huh?  It was your typical dorm room I suppose.  The room measured about 10′ x 20′.

The first thing we did was re-arrange.  Where the beds had been perpendicular to the wall on the right side we pushed them around to be parallel to the wall.  Then we lofted the beds.  After that we moved both desks under the lofted bed on the far side of the room by the window.  The dresser was moved between the two beds and a futon was placed under the bed closest to the door in front of the closets.

From there, these two cuties knocked it out of the park with their creative projects.

It was all a little squirrely – as is everything in my life I think.  The girls found out they were going to be room mates and their dorm assignment in December.  Our house in Atlanta went on the market at the end of January and quickly sold.  Knowing our household goods were going to be in storage until AFTER baby girl got moved into school we had to get everything for her together and separated from our family household stuff lickety split.  Fortunately, we have plenty of family in the area and had ample space to put everything, but we still had to get our act together before spring when we moved away for good. So all of this getting the dorm together was going on while we were in the process of selling our house, moving, finishing senior activities, graduation…and oh yeah we have another one in college too that had to move out of one place and into another. Whew!!

It all worked out just fine, as it always does :)

Today I’ll show you the finished room and in my next post I’ll show you how some of the projects came together.

Quite an improvement, don’t you think?
