House Tour: The Master Bedroom

Welcome to the Master Bedroom.  You will see that I broke the cardinal rule of decor…I have matchy matchy stuff.  I did it twice!  The furniture in this room is part of a matched set as are the linens.  I know.  I should be kicked out of the home blogger’s union.  Oh wait.  There isn’t one; so I’m safe for the moment.  I do have a good excuse for breaking the cardinal rule though, even twice.  I’m not the only one that lives in here :p  Any of you out there that have to share your space will get where I’m coming from.  Sometimes you just have to find SOMETHING you can both agree on.  And even though this space is all matchy matchy I still love it.  This Master bedroom is a quiet, serene, and soothing space for us.  When I walk in here I immediately go ahhhhh!  Relaxation mode takes over.  Isn’t that how it should be?

Depression Glass

Y’all know I have an unnatural love of dishes.  I have quite a stash collected here and there throughout my house.  Some dishes I’ve managed to incorporate into decor and others I just pull out every now and then.  One of those every now and then collections is my assortment of Depression Glass.

Depression glass is clear or colored translucent glassware that was distributed free, or at low cost, in the United States and Canada around the time of the Great Depression. The Quaker Oats Company, and other food manufacturers and distributors, put a piece of glassware in boxes of food, as an incentive to purchase. Movie theaters and businesses would hand out a piece simply for coming in the door.

Most of this glassware was made in the central and mid-west United States, where access to raw materials and power made manufacturing inexpensive in the first half of the twentieth century. More than twenty manufacturers made more than 100 patterns, and entire dinner sets were made in some patterns. Common colors are clear (crystal), pink, pale blue, green, and amber. Less common colors include yellow (canary), ultra marine, jadeite (opaque pale green), delphite (opaque pale blue), cobalt blue, red (ruby & royal ruby), black, amethyst, monax, and white (milk glass).

Although of marginal quality, Depression glass has been highly collectible since the 1960s. Due to its popularity as a collectible, Depression glass is becoming more scarce on the open market. Rare pieces may sell for several hundred dollars. Some manufacturers continued to make popular patterns after World War II, or introduced similar patterns, which are also collectible. Popular and expensive patterns and pieces have been reproduced, and reproductions are still being made.

When I got my Depression Glass, in the late eighties and early nineties, it wasn’t as difficult to come by or as expensive as it is today.  My entire collection, at the time was less than $100.

Savannah Smiles

I LOVE the deep south.  I mean I really love it.  I have a special place in my heart for the low country, that coastal region along South Carolina and Georgia.  I’ve shared some of my previous visits here and here.  There’s just something about those ocean breezes and Live Oaks dripping with Spanish Moss that call to me.  The low country is my happy place.

Recently my sweetie and I celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary.

Then

and

and now

I think we’ve gotten better with age, don’t you?

For a treat on our special day we took a little trip down to Savannah.  It’s only a 2 hour drive from our home so it was totally doable in a day.

Get ready for a photo bomb…I took A LOT of pictures.

Bottle Tree

Happy New Year!  I hope you had a wonderful holiday season.  I sure did.  My babies were home for several weeks.  We enjoyed spending time together doing a lot of nothing.  It was great, nice and quiet, & super relaxing.  We watched lots of movies, cooked and baked together, and did a day trip or two.  :)

I know I’ve been on a landscape kick with my latest posts.  I promise we’re coming down the home stretch on that.

Spice Cabinet – My OCD Standard

Okay, so we all know I’m a little, a lot, over the top OCD when it comes to organization.   Anyone that color codes their closet should be first in line at the organizers anonymous meeting – that’s me.  When my sweetie asked me what I wanted for my birthday this year my answer was easy, new spice jars.  No jewels, or exotic trips for me – it’s the little things that make me SO happy.  In our new kitchen my old spice storage just didn’t fit right and I was really “over” the plastic too.

The jars were ordered online from Sunburst Bottle.  I’m really happy with the size, and I especially like their squared off edges.
